Study Of Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) On End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Patients

A study done by the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston on type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients shows decline in estimated glomerular filtration (eGFR) rate is linear in 87 percent of the patients and accelerating and decelerating in 6 and 7 percent of the patients respectively. Researchers conducted an observational study on 364 type 1 diabetes patients having End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) between 1991 and 2013. Dr. Jan Skupien, M.D. participated in this study and the study results were published in Diabetes Care .

eGFR : The eGFR or estimated glomerular filtration rate is a number based on the waste product called creatinine in the bloodstream. This eGFR number is used to detect early kidney damage, to monitor kidney functioning status and to know about chronic kidney disease.

Estimated glomerular filtration rate : Refer eGFR.

Cancer Risk With Obesity

Previous studies linked overweight or obesity to health complications such as Alzheimer's, arthritis, asthma, diabetes, liver disease and psoriasis diseases. New studies are linking overweight in an individual to a number of cancer diseases such as breast, colon, endometrial, esophageal, gallbladder, kidney, pancreatic, rectum and thyroid. There are enough indications indicating other cancers to obesity. But scientists and researchers were yet to establish cause and effect relationship between obesity and cancer.

Arthritis : Arthritis disease effects joints and generally occurs when an individual's immune system attacks healthy cells of the individual's body. Symptoms are joint pain, stiffness, swelling, redness, decreased range of motion of the joints. There are more than 100 types of arthritis and common types of arthritis are
