A Study On Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) In Patients With End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
A study by the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston on patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) shows decline in estimated glomerular filtration (eGFR) rate is linear in 87 percent of the patients and accelerating and decelerating in six and seven percent of the patients respectively. Researchers conducted an observational study on 364 patients with type 1 diabetes having End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) between 1991 and 2013. Dr. Jan Skupien, M.D. participated in this study and the study results were published in Diabetes Care .
eGFR : The eGFR or estimated glomerular filtration rate is a number based on the waste product called creatinine in the bloodstream. This eGFR number is used to detect early kidney damage, to monitor kidney functioning status and to know about chronic kidney disease.
Factors To Prevent Heart Attack
Check and control following health factors to prevent heart attacks.
The Risk Of Cancer With Obesity
Previous studies linked overweight or obesity to health complications such as Alzheimer's, arthritis, asthma, diabetes, liver disease and psoriasis diseases. New studies are linking overweight in an individual to a number of cancer diseases such as breast, colon, endometrial, esophageal, gallbladder, kidney, pancreatic, rectum and thyroid. There are enough indications indicating other cancers to obesity. But scientists and researchers were yet to establish cause and effect relationship between obesity and cancer.
Alzheimer's : Alzheimer's is a chronic and irreversible disease where memory and thinking cells degenerate and die. This disease starts slowly during mid 60's and becomes worse over time. Main symptoms of this disease are memory loss and confusion. There is no permanent cure. The average life expectancy after diagnosis of the disease is between three and nine years. A recent study indicate that Alzheimer's disease is the 3rd leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.
Arthritis : Arthritis disease effects joints and generally occurs when an individual's immune system attacks healthy cells of the individual's body. Symptoms are joint pain, stiffness, swelling, redness, decreased range of motion of the joints. There are more than 100 types of arthritis and common types of arthritis are
Asthma : Asthma is a chronic lung disease affecting about 24 million Americans and 334 million worldwide. This disease inflates and narrows bronchial tubes or airways (that carries air to lungs) making hard to breathe. This disease reduces breathing time or sometimes individual hear sound while breathing, coughing and chest tightness.
Liver disease : Liver disease or hepatic disease is liver damage due to genetic factors, drugs, poisons, virus (such as hepatitis A or B or C) and drinking too much alcohol. There are over 100 types of liver diseases. Damage to the liver due to alcohol consumption is called Alcohol-Related Liver Disease (ARLD). Signs of liver disease are jaundice or yellowing of the skin. Failure of the liver due to liver disease can occur gradually or suddenly.
